Because of that, why exactly does anyone need a safe space? I'm left handed in real life, do I need a safe space because people IRL years ago make fun of people who were left handed (even though noone in EVE does?) Same thing, isn't it? Sexual orientation doesn't matter to EVE, what matters is how you can play the game. Your poor analogy indicates you don't get it and probably never will.
No one has a problem with women in EVE seeking out and creating their own communities. And most players are quite supportive of them, whereas some of the things I've heard said about LGBT are downright hostile (and incessant from certain individuals).
Does anyone "care" if you're a woman playing EVE? No, we just want to blow up space ships with you! Does that mean you'll enjoy hanging out with a bunch of immature men constantly talking about topics that make you uncomfortable or hold no interest for you? Depends on your tolerance for such behavior. A lot of people would rather find a group with like-minded people to enjoy their time with.

Not that there's anything wrong with being immature...It's a game, it doesn't need to be the pinnacle of modern class. Men enjoy acting a certain way around each other and that's fine. But it doesn't necessarily mean a woman will step into that environment and enjoy it. It's not about what you feel is "mature enough", it's about what makes that individual comfortable. You don't get to decide that for them.
I've been in a large corp/alliance where "jewing" was the most common term used for money making. Was anybody trying to be offensive? No...it was so commonly used they didn't even think of it that way. Is it immature? Yes, arguably. If a Jewish person found it offensive and decided to find another group would you be right to say "suck it up, no one cares if you're Jewish"? No! It's their right to find a group of people to play with that doesn't make them uncomfortable.
You don't have to go out of your way to accommodate people that find every old thing offensive, but you also shouldn't deride them for choosing to play with someone else.

EVE (like real life and every other online game) is rife with immature (to put it kindly) and malicious (to put it less kindly) people. Just because you are mature doesn't mean everyone is. EVE is not immune to these problems, and if you think it is then your experience must be very narrow. It's quite rampant, with some groups being much worse than others.
Really we agree on the root of the issue. I'm sure the OP would be happy to find a mature group of players who won't put them down. Realistically though, that can be difficult to find. Joining a group of like-minded players is just a shortcut to achieve that goal, because they're coming from a common background. Who are we to tell him OP he/she doesn't need that? It's not for us to decide.

So if I punched you in the face repeatedly, you'd just be cool with that and we could still be friends?
Honestly...calling OP close-minded and in the same breath trying to control how they live their life...
